Event Description

Vancouver Alliance Network Because we Care (VAN BC). We believe it is important to begin meaningful dialogue on issues and build alliances to support various concerns and encourage citizens to be actively involved in developing community based solutions that are consistent with the four dimensions of sustainability.

We believe it is the best interests of all people to engage civil society and build networks to promote economic, social, environmental and cultural sustainable communities. Many Canadians have expressed feelings of being alienated in our democratic process and choose not to vote. In the last city (Vancouver) election we had 31% voter turnout, provincially 50% and federally 59%. We view this as unacceptable and want to encourage citizens to get fully involved in voting and ongoing community engagement.

VAN BC has scheduled the event for February 13, 2011 at the Ray Cam Community Centre. It will be from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and feature 7 panels on key areas. The format will focus on description of the issues and solutions but also on how we intend to build greater community involvement to ensure active engagement of people who feel alienated frustrated and are uninvolved. The seven panels are, Environment, Women Issues, Education, Childcare, Voter Apathy, Arts and Culture, and Housing and Homelessness.

This date, one day prior to the Missing and Murdered Women’s March allows us to show solidarity, promote social sustainability and highlight that is place “WHERE CHANGE HAPPENS”, including critical issues facing women and exploring solutions to Vancouver communities challenges to create safe enriching places for women, families and children.

VAN BC wants this process to be as welcoming for all people and has taken several steps to ensure we can get the largest and diverse audience we can. We will be hosting an all day Children’s Festival simultaneously to encourage as many parents and youth to attend. There will be food and other fun events. If your organization would like to have an information table or you want to assist please call Scott Clark at 778 709 3165 or email at clarkscott00@hotmail.com.

Thank you for time and we look forward to seeing you on February 13, 2011 at Ray Cam.

We will be having the VAN BC planning meeting at Friday February 4th 3:00 PM at Ray Cam community centre. We are almost there and if you can attend great, non profits, we welcome your input and support to make this a great event for the community. Hope to see you al tomorrow.

On left is Community Television - Friends group. W2 gives a big boos to community media generally and television in particular. Currently at the W2 Stoyeum complex at 151 W. Cordova, a hotbed of media artists, activists, and organisers are planning the programming and move across the street into their new space in the historic Woodward's building.

W2TV is a co-production of W2 Community Media Arts Society, DTES-CAN Downtown Eastside Community Arts Network and ACCESS-TV (Association of Chinese Canadians for Equality and Solidarity Society).

Many thanks all our friends and allies and those who have lent a hand including: Chinese Canadian National Council (CCNC), Carnegie Community Centre, National Anti-Racism Council of Canada (NARCC), Vancouver Moving Theatre, Heart of the City Festival, Carnegie Community Action Project, VAN BC and Ray-Cam Community Centre.

W2TV is about news, views, people, places, and events in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. It began February 2007 as FearlessTV at the Carnegie Community Centre with the first of three "Getcha Message Out" workshops. This is our forty- third one-hour program broadcast to 660,000 $haw cable boxes. We will soon be cross-platform when W2 online happens.

Please make copies off air...that's one of the reasons we broadcast. If you don't have $haw cable and/or recorder, ask a friend. If you don't have friends who can help, we can provide copy at cost but it is time consuming. Real time copying and five or ten minutes to cue up and finalize. You get the idea,...

Peace, love, and hope to you and yours...the struggle continues.

In all fighting, the direct method may be used for joining battle, but indirect methods will be needed in order to secure victory.

In battle, there are not more than two methods of attack - the direct and the indirect; yet these two in combination give rise to an endless series of maneuvers.

The direct and the indirect lead on to each other in turn. It is like moving in a circle - you never com
