How about learning from participating in an urban permaculture project in practice? Then come join Anthony and Mark in Burnaby on Saturday March 28th from 10am until 2 pm when we continue building the soil for veggie beds this summer.

What to exchange:
By putting on these workshops, we are creating a space for us to share with members of our community skills and knowledge we’ve picked up along the way. Both of us have full-time jobs and many part-time commitments, but we’re taking steps to facilitate a type of community exchange to build the economy we want to live in.
In doing so, we hope everyone who shows up enjoys and positive experience, and walks away having learned something new. If that’s the case, we ask you to please make a donation of whatever you feel is appropriate to your situation.
Suggested donations -
- $20 +
- A timeshare (offer to help us out for a while!)
- A useful skillshare (teach us something new!)
- We will consider any barter or alternative economics approach
- Immortality in song
We're set up with Square mobile credit card reader so, if don't have cash, you can swipe. Although 2% of transaction goes to Square, it adds convenience and seems to work well.

What is Caterpillar Commons:
Caterpillar Commons is a project undertaken by tenants in a rental property in Burnaby. By unlearning and rewilding we have seen the potential to unlock in this under-utilized urban undulation.
This project has strengthened our connection to the bioregion and seasons, while offering valuable opportunities to re-skill ourselves. In a city where finding access or tenure to begin putting down roots can be a challenge, this is a real-life example of what can be achieved as a renter with a bit of time, a bit of scrounging and a bit of uncertainty and a lot of effort!
Really, Caterpillar Commons is where an understory permie, an earthship captain and a travelling circus performer find home. We’re exploring the intersections of the social, built, and natural environments.

Why are we teaching:
We want to learn the skills it takes to provide for ourselves by producing as much of what we consume as possible. We want to reduce our footprint, or if possible create a regenerative one. We want to step out of exploitative forms of capitalism and participate in creating a new economy. So we’re experimenting with different things in different places and have gained some knowledge that might be helpful to others starting their own experiments.
