Share Or Learn A Skill At the Surrey Skill Share Fair
The Surrey Skill Share Fair is a one-day festival filled with teaching and learning all kinds of useful, handy, and practical skills. The Skill Share Fair is on Sunday, October 19th, 10 am to 4 pm at the Surrey Nature Centre, 14225 Green Timbers Way. The Fair is free to attend!
“This is a community festival for sharing, teaching and learning new and practical skills,” says one of the festival organizers, Peter Leblanc, “experience something you have been curious about, or try out a new hobby.”
The Skill Share Fair is accepting workshop and demonstration proposals through the website www.skill-share.ca. Workshops registered so far include:
• African drumming and rhythm
• Fix a flat tire on a bike and other simple bike repairs
• Gardening Tips
• Make yogurt using the casserole from a slow-cooker
• Mindful walking
• Reiki, Yoga and Shiatsu classes
• Empowering Children
• Share Your Voice: Why Podcasting is Such a Great Medium
• Speak Out! How to Stand and Deliver in Any Setting)
• Poetry workshop
“The idea of a community event where people from all backgrounds can come together...to learn from each other, have fun, make some connections, and go home with new ideas, inspiration, and a few skills...is very exciting!” remarked Jenn Swanson, Creator & Host of the Communication Diva Podcast.
Workshop presenters receive a thank you gift and some delicious food.
The public is invited to participate in specific workshops or ongoing demonstrations. A schedule will be available in mid-October on the website and at the event. The event is supported through the Oak Avenue Hub’s Neighbourhood Small Grant Program and in partnership with the Village Surrey Transition Initiative and the Surrey Nature Centre.
