Learn how to make your own traditional, fermented sauerkraut (spicy version available) in this Village Vancouver ElderGreens workshop with Alyssa Kohlman. Fermented vegetables have many health benefits, including live enzymes, readily available vitamins and minerals, and probiotics -- and sauerkraut and other fermented vegetables are suitable for everyone (vegetarian, vegan, Paleo, gluten free). Please bring a wide-mouth 500ml mason jar, cutting board, large knife, and large bowl if you're able to, and wear clothes you don't mind preparing food in. Participants will go home with a jar of Customized sauerkraut to ferment at home.
Adults and families with children 10 years and older are welcome. All minors must be accompanied by a caregiver. We'll have a Community Seed Library present - you can get some free seeds for your garden or swap or donate some seeds. This workshop is by donation ($0 - $10), plus a $7 materials fee. Free for Seniors (50 and over).
Register by Tuesday, Feb 28th here or by email: ross@villagevancouver.ca. Limited space, early registration advised.
Organized and led by seniors, VV ElderGreens brings seniors, youth and others together to share food and gardening skills and wisdom through workshops and other activities. All ages welcome, please contact us if you're interested in getting involved.
