Riley Park/Little Mountain residents will be getting a new Community Garden as part of Phase 1 of the Riley Park (30th/Ontario east of Nat Bailey Stadium /Hillcrest Community Centre / on the old Percy Norman Pool site) redevelopment.
This is a "community garden”. Residents are invited to a Charette (Garden Design Session.) The community needs to submit a plan for approval for construction to start. We need details as we approach businesses and other funders to support the garden. We want to ensure we have input from as many residents as possible.
This garden will be inclusive and accessible, it will build on our community’s current knowledge, expertise and resources, it will be a social gathering meeting space with education and programming.
Everyone, regardless of gardening or planning experience, is invited to help shape an important corner of the Little Mountain Riley Park Community!
Saturday May 23: 1-5 pm - 1-2 Garden Site visit; 2-5 Charette (design session)
1-2: Meet at 30th/ Ontario from 1-2 or at Hillcrest Community Centre (Vancouver Curling Club Lounge entrance) at 1pm - Visit the approved Community Garden site at 30th and Ontario.
2pm-5pm: Enjoy an engaging presentation about different community garden designs by local Landscape Architect Rob Miksza. Rob will lead us in small group interactive small group activities. Learn more about communal garden options and examples from other gardens. We want your input on ideas on programming, wish lists and design features.
By the end of the session, we will have a few designs for consideration in the next stage of planning!
