Event Description

Location: VanDusen Guides Classroom
Instructor: Casey Werfl
Price: Member: $60 / Non-member: $70
Learn the universal guidelines and logic for pruning, aesthetics, and overall plant health.

This 2-part course with long-time VanDusen gardener, Casey Werfl, is a great overview of the fundamentals of pruning, combined with specifics on appropriate practices for the spring. Proper pruning begins with an understanding of the basic botany behind plant growth, seasonal activity, response to injury, plant hormones, and more. Learn the universal guidelines and logic for pruning, aesthetics, and overall plant health. Casey will demonstrate how to use pruning tools properly, where and how cuts should be made on the plant. The focus on spring pruning will discuss which plants are pruned at this time of year, how much of the plant to cut, and how the plant will respond. Course will include ample time in the Garden to examine plants in need of pruning, see the results of past pruning, and demonstrate proper techniques and clever tips.
