The Only Planet Cabaret - an exhilarating evening of theatre that addresses pressing environmental issues with wit, verve and style - comes to Vancouver (April 20) and Nanaimo (April 24). Both are benefit performances: for Sierra Club BC in Vancouver and for Pull Together in Nanaimo.
The Only Planet Cabaret - where denial meets hope, despair meets wonder, and complacency meets commitment. Where Edith Piaf meets David Suzuki and Stan Rogers meets the Kinder-Morgan pipeline. “An inspirational and amazing performance that opens hearts and minds to new possibilities and actions to end global warming.”
It's been 45 years since the first Earth Day and the oceans are more acidic than ever, more species have gone extinct, and carbon levels in the atmosphere have soared above 400 parts per million. Time to unleash the power of Poetry, Storytelling and Song!
In a style all their own, the Only Planet Cabaret takes the most pressing environmental issues of our times and serves them up in a unique performance that's funny and thought-provoking, entertaining and stimulating, moving and inspiring. You’ll find yourself on a journey full of questions where the only answers are the ones you discover for yourself.
The Only Planet Cabaret is a unique collaboration between five Salt Spring Island writers, performers, musicians and activists — Nomi Lyons, Murray Reiss, Ahava Shira, Phil Vernon and Maggie Ziegler — who bring together passionate singing and songwriting, intimate story-telling, powerful performance poetry and exuberant musical theatre. “A cleverly written, witty and well performed topical musical/play. A potential west coast smash hit.”
The Cabaret combines original material with rewritten and repurposed show tunes, folk songs and rock 'n' roll to raise spirits and encourage engagement with the many challenges we face. Its creative approach to environmental crises opens up space for our unspoken fears and doubts, hopes and inner strengths. The Cabaret takes you on a journey full of questions where the only answers are the ones you discover for yourself. “I feel inspired and awakened. Thank you!”
