Born and raised in North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Kim Dunn has been working on a successful music career for 30 years now and has worked with the who’s who of East coast artists including, Rita MacNeil, Bruce Guthro, Matt Minglewood, Jimmy Rankin, Lennie Gallant, David Myles, Jill Barber, Dave Gunning, George Canyon, and continues to do so.
In 2003 Kim received the first Musician Special Achievement East Coast Music Award, an award designed to honor the integrity and merit of the consummate musician – an honor indeed to have received it in the year of it’s inception. He has producing, writing, and arranging credits as well.
But there is another side to Kim Dunn, that of a songwriter and vocalist. After playing on countless cd’s of other artists, Kim has brought his songwriting, and singing to the foreground with his first solo project, TAKE THIS HAMMER. The playing, writing, and arrangements stand alone, but what really shines, is Kim’s voice – soulful, rich, unique, and confident.
If you are a fan of Randy Newman, Lyle Lovett, Harry Connick Jr, and early Elton John, you will love this Cd.
Kim has successfully showcased at NOVA SCOTIA MUSIC WEEK, The EAST COAST MUSIC AWARDS, and the premium Artist/Buyers conference, CONTACT EAST. Recently and notably he has performed with SYMPHONY NOVA SCOTIA, and he has been featured live in concert on CANADA LIVE, a nationally aired radio broadcast on CBC’s radio 2. He has also been featured numerous times regionally on CBC’s ATLANTIC AIRWAVES and ALL THE BEST, as well as countless radio stations throughout the Maritimes.
Personal highlights include having had the chance to meet and work with Alison Krauss, Peter Gzowski, Philip Glass, and performing at the Montreal Jazz Festival.
