Event Description

Fermentation is an age-old food preservation technique used by cultures around the world, but that has fallen into relative obscurity in modern Western cuisine. The benefits of fermentation extend beyond food preservation: fermentation improves the nutritional content of food, improves digestibility, creates important enzymes for our bodies while removing toxins and anti-nutrients from fermented foods.

Thanks to a Neighbourhood Small Grant from the Vancouver Foundation, Alyssa Kohlman is offering a free workshop to introduce you to the joys of fermentation! In this 3-4 hour workshop, participants will learn some of the history and health benefits of fermentation and fermentation techniques that can be applied to a wide variety of foods. Participants will prepare two different fermented products that they will be able to take home with them.

Space is limited to 20 participants in total, so make sure to reserve your spot now! If you reserve a spot and realise that you are no longer able to attend, please let us know so that your spot can be offered to someone else.

If you are able to bring:
-A cutting board
-A knife
-A large mixing bowl
-Pint-size wide mouth mason jars

Please let us know! Email jordan@villagevancouver.ca.
