Community currencies (cc) have many forms and many benefits. This workshop will describe the main types of CCs and their features. Participants will discover how to use them effectively and without taking risks. They will learn how to begin a community currency, how to make sure it is all legal, and how to access useful software. Within the context of the economic, environmental, ethical issues involved, participants will learn how to make change in society, by making change in money.
Offered as part of Village Vancouver's Transition School as part of Langara College's Sustainable Communities Summer School.
Instructors: Michael Linton & Jordan Bober
Michael Linton designed and implemented the first LETSystem in 1983 in the Comox Valley, and has since been continually active in community currencies development in many ways and many places around the world.
Jordan Bober has a Master's in Economics from Gothenburg University, where he researched community currencies for his thesis. In Vancouver, Jordan has been actively working to establish community currencies including the Dunbar Dollar and SeedStock, a community currency with a focus on local food, art and health. He often presents on money and community currencies.
