Enjoy the taste of freshly grown veggies from your garden this season!
Village Vancouver presents a workshop with Rhiannon Johnson on Early Summer Gardening. Mid to late spring and early summer are busy times in the garden, and there are a lot of plants you can seed directly. Learn what to plant now and how to plant properly on your balcony, in your yard, or in your community garden plot. You'll come away with the knowledge to plant, grow, and harvest vegetables such as peas, beans, greens, beets, the onion family, root veggies, herbs, tomatoes, and carrots starting now! We'll have the VV-SCC Community Seed Library present and you'll be able to take, swap or donate seeds.
Cost: $0-$10. Register (by May 7) #110522: through SCC 604.713.1838 or in person, or at Vancouver Recreation (https://ca.apm.activecommunities.com/vancouver/Activity_Search/early-summer-gardening/105541). For sliding scale option ($0 - $10 suggested), register by phone or in-person.
Our healthy, local food residency at the Strathcona Park Field House offers a variety of affordable food and community based programming at the fieldhouse, Strathcona Community Centre, and elsewhere. This workshop is part of VV's Building Community Food Security and Resilience Project. This project is made possible by the BC Ministry of Agriculture's Grow Local program. Early Spring Gardening is also part of VV's 2017 Cultivating Food, Cultivating Community Series at Strathcona CC.
