Event Description

(dairy free, veggie, hands-on, wheat-free)

Snacking on the go is a challenge when we are trying to stick to any diet. Whether gluten-free, sugar-free, local or just healthy. This class is for you!

One of the most ancient techniques for food preservation is drying. You don’t need an expensive food dehydrator to dry food! A conventional gas or electric oven can be used for all recipes.

Essential for food security, drying solves storage problems in the fridge and takes up less space in the pantry than canning. Not to mention that unlike canning, we can preserve these foods without added sugar or vinegar.

In this class we’ll be making:

  • Apple-pie spiced apple and pear chips
  • Sugar-free fruit leather (roll-ups!)
  • Spiced sweet and salty energy nut and seed mixes
  • Learn how to dry herbs and chilies
  • Seriously satisfying vegetable chips
  • Oven-dried tomatoes (and how to use them in everyday cooking.)
