Event Description

Please join Community Way founder Michael Linton and his colleagues Pieter Vorster and Caila Holbrook who are coming all the way from Comox to share their practical experiences with the launching of community currencies and to help us lay the groundwork for a successful Community Way project here in Vancouver.

We will begin with an informal get-together on Friday evening (Feb. 18th) starting from about 7pm at Steamworks (next to Waterfront Station Downtown) in order for the participants and the Comox Community Way team to get acquainted. The next day, Saturday, Feb. 19th starting at 1pm, an intensive workshop will be held with Michael, Pieter and Caila to forge a blueprint for our efforts (led by Village Vancouver's Local Economy Network) to launch a Community Way currency (or currencies) here in Vancouver, beginning with the Dunbar neighbourhood. This is really the major kick-off event for this fantastic undertaking, and we strongly encourage all those interested in joining the project team to participate in this workshop.

Because this workshop will be focussed primarily on practical and organisational matters pertaining to the Community Way project, we ask that participants meet the following criteria:

  • You are familiar with the Community Way model of community currency (to learn more, visit the website www.communityway.ca and/or attend the presentation by Michael Linton and Jordan taking place on February 13th - more details here).
  • You are willing to commit to becoming a contributing member of the Village Vancouver project to create Vancouver's first Community Way currency (the first of many!) in the Dunbar neighbourhood.

I'm sorry I didn't make it last night I got a terrible migraine, still feeling washed out today. I hope you have a good session. Very sorry again.

Hi, I know my RSVP is late, can I still come on Friday (just me)? If not is it OK to come on Saturday? Thanks.

Let me check with my partner as he might want to come too and we will confirm tomorrow. This sounds like a great event. Thanks for organizing.

Saturday workshop from 1pm-4pm has been confirmed for Langara College, room A218. This is in building A, which is the largest building in the complex located at the corner of 49th and Ontario.

Hey everyone, I have made a reservation at Steamworks Restaurant

Hello everyone,

A quick note that I have made a reservation for us at Steamworks Restaurant (right next to Waterfront Station) for Friday at 7pm. Please let me know if you can or can't make it on Friday so that I can modify our reservation if need be (so far I am reckoning that there will be about 8 of us in total on Friday).

I'm still awaiting final confirmation, but I believe that we will be meeting at Langara College on Saturday, as it is quite central and easily accessible with the Canada Line. I'll let you know as soon as that's confirmed!

See you,

Jordan

Both Caila and I are looking forward to connecting with the folks from Vancouver and sharing our combined knowledge and experience relating to the community way initiative.
