A Day of Workshops about Collective Houses followed by an Urban Chicken Tour & Social.
Join us April 11, 2010 to learn more about Collective Living.
Hosted in two Collective House located one block apart in the Grandview-Woodland area.
What are they? How do they work? Why are they so important?
What is a Collective House? A residence where people share food, space, stuff, housework, some amount of money though that varies by house, and some values, though again shared values vary from house to house. Most houses in the Vancouver Collective House Network are centered around social and environmental justice values. Mutual support of life in the domestic realm results in stronger individuals and stronger communities.
Workshops will cover:
How to Start and Sustain a Collective House: The hows and whys of community living.
The Beauty of Eating Together: Priorities and systems for sharing food.
Buying a house collectively: Exploring models of home ownership and financing to create lasting and secure collective households.
Conflict and Communication Workshop: learn about, discuss and practice effective communication styles, tips to avoid common pitfalls, and conflict resolution techniques.
The Collective Housing Connection: a participatory workshop aimed at connecting like-minded individuals who are seeking to start a collective house or have an existing house they’re looking for others to join.
Eco-tour: How collective living minimizes urban footprints.
Free workshops, donations accepted to cover costs.
Delicious vegan lunch provided.
Come to one workshop or to the whole day.
