Calling all Wild Salmon People!
In April and May of 2010 an epic walk called "The Get-Out Migration" took place. Walkers started in Sointula and walked the full length of Vancouver island to call attention to the negative impacts created by open-net fish farms on the coast of British Columbia http://www.salmonaresacred.org/get-out-migration-spring-2010
This October, the journey continues as thousands take to the water and the land in the "Paddle for Wild Salmon". The "Salmon Are Sacred" group, headed by Alexandra Morton is paddling down the Fraser River from Hope. It will be joined by others and will finish in Vancouver on October 24th & 25th

On Sunday October 24th at Jericho Beach 12:00 PM - 4:00
a Mass Gathering and Celebration takes place to welcome the Paddle for Wild Salmon. The event will include Ceremony, Music, Art, Food, Educational Tables and Family Fun. We expect many to join us with their good spirit, their costumes and props and their family and friends as we gather for entertainment and speeches and to watch the local First Nations welcome the flotilla of watercraft at Jericho Beach Waterfront, on the Westside of Vancouver BC, off of Point Grey Road. The watercraft will arrive at approximately 2:00 PM
In the light of the stellar return of the sockeye to the Fraser River this year, it is even more important to call attention to the connection between the greatest Salmon River in the world, the City of Vancouver and the wild salmon on the BC coast who use this river as a highway to their spawning grounds. Now more than ever it is imperative for us all to work together for the health of the salmon runs, our natural ecosystems and future generations.
