Event Description

Permaculture is an integrated design process
with a focus on positive solutions using natural systems as inspiration for creating sustainable
urban agricultural environments. Permaculture beekeeping takes permaculture deeper and
further into ecological design by emphasizing
the importance of bees in our urban edible landscapes. In partnership with plants bees are
the foundation of life on this planet. This brief course covers the basics of permaculture design, how bees are essential to any sustainable system, and how to design with bees and sustainability in mind. No previous knowledge or experience of permaculture or bees is necessary to enjoy and learn from this class.
Date: June 12 Time: 10:00 – 4:00 P.M.
6 hours $180
Class size is limited to 12*

*For sessions where we work closely with honeybees please dress appropriately: wear a
bee suit if you have one. Otherwise wear a
long sleeved shirt and long pants with socks
and closed toe shoes. We have hats and veils
for visitors to wear.

The Bee School
The philosophy of The Bee School is based on
sound principles of sustainable, scientific and
ethical apiary management. Our goal is to
train a new generation of small-scale urban
and commercial beekeepers prepared to face
the challenges and rewards of the 21st Century.

We live in an age of unprecedented global
change. Old modalities and paradigms need to
be updated. Just as the resilience of our
ecosystem has to be maintained and encouraged,
we as beekeepers and urban residents need to
grow into a more flexible and responsive way
of being; especially in light of honey and native
bee losses.

Classes and workshops at The Bee School
combine the very latest knowledge, skills and
techniques in native and honeybee landscape
design and management while keeping alive
the knowledge and traditions of the ancient art
of beekeeping.

Our intention is to engage the public in doing
more to protect and preserve bee populations
through courses and workshops that are as
affordable and accessible as possible.

All classes provide theory with ample
opportunities for hands on practice. Sessions
are relaxed emphasizing the enjoyment and
appreciation of bees while learning in an
inclusive environment.
